As many of you know and perhaps do,the beginning of the year is a time
to reflect on the past year, look forward to the new one and define the
resolutions you want to keep up with but
let’s be honest by the time the first
month rolls over you have already given up on most of them “ooooooor” you
haven’t even started yet (which is usually me).
We are two months into 2016 and
you might wonder why on earth am I talking about resolutions now ? Well, for the
simple reason that for the first time in my life I feel like I am slowly but
surely getting closer to achieving goals I have dreamed of reaching years ago. Now,the
way I go about it is different as I try taking little steps as well as focusing
month by month on a different resolution but that will be all discussed in
another post.
Resolutions can be anything really, whatever we aspire to be, aspire to
have or aspire to change but if there’s one resolution that I would recommend everybody
to add to their list of resolutions every year is reinventing yourself. This is
something you can work on for the rest of your life as you can always discover
a new side of yourself and when life gets dull and repetitive, you can shake it
up a little by refinding yourself.
A person cannot be defined nor can be set within limits. As we live and
grow up within our surroundings, we give the impression to others that we can
only be a certain thing or think a certain way and when we decide that maybe
just maybe we like something else, we are faced with judgment, eye rolling and
sneers that indicates we should probably crawl back to the comfort zone
that supposedly means “who we are”. I say, don’t be afraid to take small
measurements from time to time in order to revive your soul and reset your
mind. So after this very long intro, here are ways that in one way or another
will help you reinvent yourself :
1. Try something for the first time: OH ! that sweet sweet sweet feeling when
you discover or learn something new and it unlocks a world that was living
inside of you and it hit you “where was this all of my life ?” That, ladies and
gentlemen is a feeling I would like to encounter every day of my life.Start a
new hobby,taste new foods,start a new
challenge and mostly reach for something you wouldn’t expect to do or be good
at and you don’t know what path it may lead you to.
2. Change your routine: We all have at least a specific period in the day or the
week when we do something over and over and over again in a certain way and in no other way than that. Try to change your daily routine little by little, piece
by piece and introduce to it new habits that may do you some good and lead you
to new self discoveries.
3. Travel: It is universally acknowledged that travel is the best
thing you can do in your life. That might be exaggerated for some but isn’t
traveling a way to gain so much in life: experiences, friends, insights,
knowledge…you name it. Near or far, whatever or wherever the destination might
be, I am sure and confidante it will hold many surprises that will metamorphose
you into a greater human being. So what are you waiting for to book that next
trip ?
4. Read : Now not all of us are financially stable to go on a dozen
travels a year but reading is always a cheaper and a wonderful option to
satisfy that thirst for exploring new horizons while not actually moving. You
get to shut your life down for a little bit and with the simple act of turning
pages, you are able to move around different stories, testimonies, perceptions,
life experiences and so on to come back with renewed and fresh attitudes and opinions.
5.Have fun : How many of us take life seriously and refuse to
partake in something because we think it’s ridiculous or childish ? Or we feel
that we are behaving sort of like robots, following directions and doing things
just because it’s supposed to be that way, not really appreciating the moment ?
This has to be the easiest way to reinvent yourself for everything that you do
can be perceived as a great moment to be lived and a time to be enjoyed.
Let's make 2016 the best year yet and venture in a world within us to determine our fullest capabilities.
